Nagenahiru Volunteers is an international volunteer placement organization affiliate to the Nagenahiru Movement, a
registered non-governmental organization in Sri Lanka operating since 1991, founded by few senior officers with
local and international experience working for the National Youth Services Council of the Ministry of Youth affairs
- Sri Lanka.
At the beginning the aims and objectives of the Nagenahiru moment is to provide opportunities to nature
conservation enthusiasts to facilitate the conservation of nature while creating harmony with society for the
benefit of future generation.
Milestones of Nagenahiru Movement
- In 2003 Nagenahiru movement was able to develop strong collaboration with Global Nature Fund in
Germany and received the membership of International Living Lake Network.
- In 2006 Nagenahiru was able to construct full equipped environmental education center with the funding
assistance of European Union and Global Nature Fund, to facilitate the environment education among
youth of Sri Lanka as well as overseas youth groups visiting Sri Lanka.
- 2012 - 2024 Nagenahiru was able to successfully conduct a 4-year project on environmental education and
nature conservation with the funding assistance of German Federal Ministry of Economic Corporation and
Development and Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and Global
Nature Fund in Germany.
- During the past 2 decades the environmental education and nature conservation activities of the
Nagenahiru operated with the financial support from the following institutions.
