Nagenahiru Volunteerss placed interested volunteers in recognized eco-tourism businesses operating for the international tourist in selected natural and cultural sites in Sri Lanka.

By participating as a volunteer in eco-tourism youth will be make a difference while enjoying green holidays in this paradise island of Sri Lanka. One of the most attractive ecotourism projects we selected is the lake heritage ecotourism project at the Madampa lake wildlife sanctuary operating at the southwest coast of Sri Lanka.

In Sri Lanka there are many opportunities extra helping hands as to further facilitate these eco-tourism activities. Which include not only provide cultural and natural experience to the international travellers they also provide opportunities to working with communities to improve their life styles and their livelihoods. While joint with mangrove restoration projects implemented by the Nagenahiru Volunteerss with the contribution of women’s living around the Madampa Lake.

The Travelers who involve as the volunteer in eco-tourism project with lake heritage with interact with the local communities by helping further improve their livelihoods such as production of different articles from coconut fibers, processing of cinnamon bark and oil for the export market and in addition to several indigenous cultural dancing such as traditional mask dancing and puppet dancing by the villages living surrounding the lake. This above eco-tourism attractions will be able to gain from their firsthand experience of a different culture with its own traditions, beliefs, food and festivities.

Working with a community and living among them exposes the travelers to their dreams, joys and aspiration; the difficulties they face and their victories over them, providing an understanding of a community who lives a different life yet smiles and weeps like them.

Volunteers are encouraged to combine holiday with volunteering to give them the best out of their stay. A homestay with a Sri Lankan family helps them bond and communicate better with the country and its people while locals too continue to respect and cherish the volunteers are lending a hand in improving themselves, the community and village.
