What is "Women Empowerment"?

These programs provide essential training and education to women who support and uplift their communities. We believe empowering women is a crucial contributing factor to sustainable economic development. We're proud to work with community organizations at each of our bases to address women's empowerment locally, addressing critical issues with long-lasting results.

Women Empowerment Volunteers will be placed in rural villages in Sri Lanka. Volunteers will be closely intertwined with the most vulnerable women groups of society, mainly engaged as casual workers. Volunteers should be concerned with these isolated female workers and their dependents and aims to improve their livelihood & Reduce socio-economic isolation.

Women empowerment volunteers also need to be concerned about the lack of adequate institutional mechanisms for these isolated women to participate in the decision-making regarding their development and welfare needs.

Final Task

This is to be achieved by establishing and strengthening a communal institutional mechanism for isolated women to empower these marginalized women and minimize their social and economic isolation and dependency.

During the last two decades, the "Nagenahiru Movement" in Sri Lanka has worked with several community groups in the socio- economic development of the underserved segment of the Sri Lankan population.

''Nagenahiru women's empowerment programs'' cater to the following issues: education initiatives to business guidance, English teaching, and micro-enterprise development and public health programs. You have several opportunities to support women's empowerment with ''Nagenahiru.''
